SIALKOT: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Dr Asif Tufail Thursday said mostly underground water in Sialkot has become polluted and is unsafe for human consumption.
Talking to local industrialists and exporters at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the DCO said the water situation in the district was quite alarming. He called for collective efforts to salvage the situation, saying that district government would take necessary steps to reduce pollution with close cooperation of local industrialists.
TMA Sialkot Adnan Mehmud Awan told the meeting that in order to modernize the municipal institutions and develop civic facilities and infrastructure, the Punjab government had allocated Rs 60 billion each for Sialkot and Sahiwal districts for dozens of development projects.
He said work on the projects would start in November 2015.
Earlier, SCCI president Major (rted) Mansoor Ahmad briefed the DCO Sialkot on the role of SCCI regarding the promotion of exports and the progress of the city.
