KARACHI: Pakistan’s trio of Mohammad Sajjad, Mohammad Asif and Shahram Changezi got off to winning starts in the IBSF World Men’s Snooker Championship 2015 which cued off in the Egyptian city of Hurgada.
Abdul Sattar, who is making his debut in the World Championship, is the fourth Pakistani player in the championship.
According to the results, made available by the Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA) here on Wednesday, Mohammad Sajjad, placed in the Group N, whipped Ahmed Haitham of Yemen in straight frames with the scores of 119-9, 70-15, 107-20, 72-10. He fired breaks of 69, 58 and 54 in successive frames to establish his supremacy over his unfancied rival.
Mohammad Asif, in the Group V, dropped an odd frame while defeating Omar All of Iraq 4-1 with the scores of 71-33, 67-41, 83-24, 57-64, 81-15. The 2012 world champion seemed heading towards another straight-frame victory before losing the keenly-contested fourth frame.
Shahram Changezi, in the Group T, came from behind to overpower Thadeu Giannattasio Nobers of Brazil 4-1 with the frame scores of 6-96, 65-24, 62-36, 87-31, 63-32. He came back strongly after losing the first frame in which his opponent registered a break of 50.
Debutant Abdul Sattar, in the Group J, will start his campaign with a match against Mostafa Dargham of Egypt.
