Mepco employees protest in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: The Mepco Bahawalpur circle employees on Wednesday staged a demonstration against the proposed privatisation of power distribution companies.
The protesters protested at the Wapda Complex, Bahawalpur, and observed a pen-down strike in their offices. The Mepco employees gathered outside the complex building under the leadership of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union and chanted slogans against the proposed privatisation. The protesters vowed that their protest would continue till with drawl from the decision.
‘DHA TO UPGRADE LIVING STANDARD OF PEOPLE’: Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Bahawalpur Project Director Brig Arif Rasheed Kiyani has said that the DHA will bring prosperity in the area by upgrading living standard of the people.
He said this while inaugurating the Record and Transfer Branch office here on Wednesday. The DHA project director said that a grand educational complex would be completed soon here and campuses of different national and international institutions would start functioning to promote educational activities in this region.
Youth dies after consuming poisonous liquor

BAHAWALPUR: A youth died after taking poisonous liquor here on Wednesday.
Ashfaq Ahmad of Noorpura, Chishtian, was fell unconscious after taking poisonous liquor. He was rushed to the BVH but he died. It is pertinent to mention here that it is the second death due to consuming of poisonous liquor at Noorpura, Chishtian, during the last three days. When contacted, City Chishtian police SHO Shafaqat Ali said that the police could not do anything in this issue.

BAHAWALPUR: A six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at Basti Chawaika near Bahawalnagar on Wednesday.
According to Sadar Bahawalnagar police FIR, 16-year-old accused Ali allegedly raped the daughter of Muhammad Khan. The victim was rushed to the DHQ Hospital Bahawalnagar in critical condition. According to the victim’s family sources, the accused rapist belongs to an influential family and political influence was allegedly being used to settle the issue between the both families.
