OKARA: Members of the All Pakistan Hydro Electric Labour Union have demanded the government withdraw false cases registered against 14 Wapda workers.
They staged a sit-in and organised a meeting in the Wapda circle office lawn here on Tuesday. APHELU zonal chairman Rana Shahid Hafiz, general secretary Mian Muhammad Akram, divisional secretary Mehmood Ahmad Dogar, secretary Khurshid Ahmad and others demanded with drawl from the cases registered against assistant linemen Tariq, Allah Yar and their 12 colleagues besides stopping their transfer orders. The participants of the meeting said that three separate FIRs had been got registered against the Wapda workers by Superintending Engineer Nazeer Ahmad Khan, Renala Khurd XEN Sajjad Rahim Khan and Depalpur XEN Ali Hassan Khan in their respective police stations. The protesters said that their strike and protest would continue till acceptance of their demands.
2 HELD WITH NARCOTICS: Police on Tuesday arrested two drug pushers and recovered brewed wine and charas from them in separate incidents here.
On a tip-off, Hujra Shah Muqeem police raided the house of Muhammad Yasin at Enain village and arrested him with more than 1kg charas. Sadar police raided at 54/2L village and arrested Sohail Akhtar with 100 litres brewed wine. The police have registered separate cases.
DBA STRIKE: The District Bar Association (DBA) members on Tuesday observed a complete strike against registration of FIRs against bar members Qari Abdul Khaliq and Rizwan Ashraf.
