GUJRANWALA: A PML (Chattha group) candidate and two others were injured by the firing of the PML-N workers here on Sunday.
The Chattha group candidate for councillor slot, Ghulam Dastgir, allegedly exchanged hot words with the PML-N workers during the election campaign on Saturday night.
On the day of the incident, Ghulam Dastgir was on way home when the PML-N workers allegedly opened fire on him. As a result, Ghulam Dastgir, Tanvir and Saira were injured. The injured people were shifted to a hospital by the Rescue 1122 staffers.
After the incident, Ahmadnagar police raided the rice mill of Zaman Chattha, a PML-N candidate for UC vice-chairman slot, and arrested three accused Abbas, Noman and Arshad. Police also recovered arms from them. However, police failed to arrest Zaman Chattha. Later, the police raided an election office of Zaman Chattha and recovered arms from there. Police have registered a case.
COMMISSIONER FOR TIMELY COMPLETION OF HOSPITAL: Commissioner Shamail Ahmad Khawaja has directed the officers concerned to complete the construction of Major Shabbir Sharif Hospital by December 31.
He gave the instructions through a video-link conference, which was attended by the health additional secretary, the development additional secretary, the buildings chief engineer, the Nespak chief engineer, the works EDO, the C&W EDO and other officers. The commissioner said that the funds had already been allocated for the project. According to a revised estimate, an amount of Rs 351.066 million would be spent on the project while Rs 52 millions would be spent on purchase of machinery and equipment, he added. He directed the Gujrat DCO to supervise the project and informed him in case of any problem.
