KASUR: Electioneering has reached its climax as the local government elections are scheduled to be held in the district on October 31 (tomorrow).
The candidates belonging to different political parties are holding corner meetings to win the support of the voters. The PML-N candidates are reportedly luring the voters through development projects. The general public is reluctant to resist the development projects as they believe that once the election activities were over, no one would care about their problems.
According to political pundits, the PML-N candidates are facing opposition from its own groups as many aspirants for the ticket are contesting the elections against the party candidates. The political analysts say that majority of independent candidates are likely to carry the day on October 31 and the ruling PML-N would have to strive to win the favour of winning candidates, using various tricks. The PTI has fielded only 28 candidates in 50 wards of Kasur due to the lack of PTI local leadership in the selection of candidates.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan People’s Party is not contesting the LG elections. PPP Kasur chapter secretary general Dr Muhammad Akram said that the PPP would support any candidate irrespective of the party. He said that the only aim was to oppose the PML-N candidates.
