BAHAWALPUR: Dozens of lawyers from Lahore on Tuesday protested against MQM chief Altaf Hussain, human rights activist Asma Jehangir and Dr Khalid Ranjha outside the LHC Bahawalpur Bench Bar Association.
The protesters led by Aftab Ahmad Virk chanted slogans against Asma Jehangir and Dr Khalid Ranjha for becoming counsel for MQM chief Altaf Hussain in a case in which several lawyers were killed in Karachi on May 12, 2007. The lawyers said that Asma Jehangir and Khalid Ranjha should not become counsel in that case.
27 LG candidates booked

BAHAWALPUR: Chishtian City police on Tuesday booked 27 candidates of ward councillors of Chishtian Municipal Committee and chairman/vice chairman of UCs in Tehsil Chishtian under Section 6 Sound System, Regulation Ordinance 2015, Wall Chalking Ordinance 2015 and violation of Section 188.
The candidates belong to PML-N MPA Ahsanul Haq Bajwa group. The case was registered on the complaint of Chishtian City police ASI Asif Nadeem. According to the police, the candidates violated the above mentioned ordinances during a public meeting held at Chishtian on Sunday night. It is pertinent to mention here that the FIR was registered only against the candidates of wards councillors and the names of the main violators of the ordinances including PML-Zia MNA Ijazul Haq, PML-N MPA Ahsanul Haq and PML-N Sindh leader Nihal Hashmi were not included in the FIR.
Murder convict hanged in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: A double murder convict was executed in the New Central Jail here on Tuesday morning. Muhammad Azam was executed for murdering his two brothers-in-law at Musafir Khana area in 1999. Meanwhile, the execution of another murder convict Khadim Hussain was stayed by the Bahawalpur D&SJ.
