MULTAN: As many as 117 Muharram processions and 150 Majalis will be held in the district on the Ashura (today).
It was told in a meeting held to review Ashura security arrangements here on Friday. The meeting was chaired by CPO Azhar Akram while other officers concerned also participated in the meeting. It was informed in the meeting that 21 Muharram processions and 38 Majalis were kept in category ‘A’ while more than 7,000 police personnel, Qaumi Razakars and volunteers would perform security duty in Multan district on the Ashura. Later, talking to journalists, CPO Azhar Akram said that mobile phone service would remain suspended in selected areas while ban on pillion riding would also operative. He warned the police personnel that no negligence would be tolerated at any level. He said that 7,639 policemen would perform duty on the Ashura. Meanwhile, the ninth Muharram processions were taken out from Mumtazabad Imambargah amid tight security. The mobile networks were switched off in the select sensitive areas till evening. The administration had adopted strict measures to avoid any untoward incident. The law enforcing agencies were put on high alert to deal with any eventuality. The CPO personally monitored all security arrangements in the district on the ninth of Muharram.
