KASUR: The District and Sessions judge Thursday summoned the Kasur jail staff for torturing a death row convict.
According to complainant Atif Farooq of village Qaisar Gar, on October 20 Kasur jail Deputy Superintendent Tahir Majeed and Assistant Superintendent Muhammad Ashfaq severely tortured his brother Mazhar Farooq on the behalf of their rivals.
He said they wanted to kill him before his execution.
Mazhar had been convicted in a murder case of a man of Qaisar Gar village and now death warrants had been issued.
Atif Farooq submitted a plea to the District and Sessions Judge Rao Abdul Jabbar who ordered the MS DHQ Hospital Dr Muzaffar Ahmed to visit the jail along with the jail Superintendent on Thursday and examine the victim. According to MLC, the victim Farooq was tortured and had torture marks at the back side of his neck. Following the medical report, the court summoned the accused jail staff on October 26.

KASUR: A prayer leader was shot dead under mysterious circumstances in Khara village on Thursday.
Qari Fazal Hussain Awaisi of Bahawalpur was also a member of district peace committee. On the day of the incident, he brought two guests in his room adjacent to the mosque and later they shot him dead. Sadr police sent the body to DHQ hospital.
