LAHORE
The Muharram activities related to the Martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) , the grandson of the holy family of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) along with his holy family in the burning sands of Karbala, saddened every heart in the provincial metropolis with Nohas, Mursiyas, Majalis-e-Aza, Zuljinah processions and special programmes being organised to pay rich tributes to the great sacrifices made by the holy family and their companions in Karbala.
The city, which never sleeps, wore a gloomy look and reverence as every locality is echoing with the Muharam related sounds.
In the main Imam Bargahs in the city, hundreds of thousands of people gather at different times of the day to listen to the Majalis-e-Aza in which renowned and prominent Shia scholars and Zakirs take the people through the events of Karbala which caused the Martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his holy family members as well as his blessed companions.
The city comes alive but in a different vain, mood and a manner, which is of remembering and mourning the most unjustified slaying of the holiest people belonging to the household of the holy Prophet (PBUH) at the hands of the tyrants in Karbala.
The activities in the first 10 days of Muharram till the midnight of Ashoor (the day of the Martyrdom of Imam Hussain,) remain intense with people frequenting from one place to another along with their kids and other family members , clad in black dresses and holding small black triangular flags (Called Alams), and flower-garlands to present to the Zuljinah and Taziya processions.
The areas of the walled city in Mochigate, Karbala Gamey Shah, Pandu Street in Islampura, Abbot Road, Imamia Colony, Shadman , Jain Mundir, Thokar Niazbeg and Johar Town the the hub of the Muharram related activities which echo with the sounds of Nohas and Mursiyas. Due to a looming threat of a possible terrorist activity, especially sponsored by the Indian RAW in the wake of the Modi’s government's heinous acts against Muslims , the unprecedented security arrangements in and around the Muharram related areas have been taken.
There is also a decrease in the usual commotion being witnessed every year around this time.
The ban on loudspeakers , imposition of Section 144 and a ban of pillion have also reduced the otherwise seen fervour on the roads and streets of the city during the first 10 days of Muharram.
Thursday, 8th of Muharram , was observed as the Martyrdom Day of Hazrat Abbass Alamdar (RA), the brave brother of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and son of Imam Hazrat Ali (RA). Alams of Hazrat Abbass (RA) and Shabih-e-Zuljinahs were taken out in various localities of the city which attracted the faithful and Azadars from every nook and corner of the provincial metropolis as well as other cities of the province.
