OKARA: Potato Growers Society Pakistan vice-president Ch Maqsood Ahmad has said that the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) soil and climate is suitable for producisng all kinds of potato seed.
It was said by him while addressing a seminar held in the chair of PGSP district president Muhammad Siddiq here on Sunday. A delegation of potato growers and dealers belonging to GB attended the function as the chief guests. Maqsood Ahmad said that potato production in the country would save a huge foreign exchange being spent on importing potato seed from Holland and other countries. Muhammad Nazim, Wali Muhammad, Ali Ahmad, Asadur Rehman, Musa Khan and others while speaking on the occasion asked the farmers to cultivate potato seed at the height of 7,000 feet and above from sea level. They said that the change of soil and climate increases excellent qualities in potato yield especially it gives good result in the fields of the Punjab. They invited the potato growers to buy the GB produced potato seed to save their expenditures being spent on importing potato seed. Later, on the demand of growers, the GB guests vowed to send potato seed of their areas through the PGSP for experiment.
