Man kills sister in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A man shot dead his sister over a domestic issue in the jurisdiction of Draban Police Station on Thursday, official sources said.They said that one Suleman, resident of Gundi Umar Khan, allegedly gunned down his sister, whose name could not be ascertained, due to unknown reasons. The accused managed to flee the scene. The police registered the case and started an investigation.Meanwhile, a man was killed and 12 others sustained injuries in a road accident on Indus Highway on Thursday.

Wheelchairs distributed among disabled

KHAR: The Social Welfare Department on Thursday distributed wheelchairs and walking sticks among 40 handicapped persons in Bagaur Agency.The wheelchairs and walking sticks were distributed during a ceremony held in Khar, the administrative headquarters of Bajaur Agency.Officials of the Social Welfare Department, social activists and large number of physically challenged persons attended the event.

Five booked for molesting boy

MARDAN: The police registered a case against five persons for allegedly abusing a boy in Par Hoti, police said. The 13-year-old boy told the police that Ashfaq, Sajjid, Hamza, Arif and Aneel molested him in the nearby fields outside his home. Police registered a case against the accused under section 377 of Pakistan Penal Code.Meanwhile, the police registered a case against two brothers for allegedly threatening assistant commissioner (AC) Charsadda.Assistant Commissioner, Charsadda, Naik Mohammad told the police that he was on way back home from duty when Saeed Khan and Javeed Khan roughed him up and hurled threats at him.

‘Govt trying to overcome drinking water problem’

ABBOTTABAD: Provincial Minister for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Shah Farman on Thursday said that the provincial government was trying to overcome the drinking water problem in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Speaking at the inauguration of Abbottabad Gravity Flow Water Supply Scheme funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), he said that the Japanese government and JICA should extend their cooperation in overcoming the basic problem of drinking water.He said that more than 250,000 people would be benefitted from the water supply scheme and added that trained staff had been hired to run the scheme. He said that the Abbottabad Gravity Flow Water Supply Scheme had been completed at the cost of Rs4 billion in four years.

MANSEHRA: The Government College University, Lahore, has clinched top position in the 11th All Pakistan Captain Usman Ali Shaheed bilingual declamation contests at the Pakistan Scouts Cadet College Batrasi on Thursday.The competitions were held in Urdu and English languages and attended by students of renowned educational institutions from across the county.The students of Chandbagh School Muridke, Cadet College Plundri, Garrison College Kohat, Cadet College Mustang, Cadet College Wana, Cadet College Choa Saiden Shah Chakwal, Government College University Lahore, Cadet College Hassanabdal and several other institutions delivered speeches both in English and Urdu.The overall second and third positions were secured by students of Colonal Sher Khan Cadet College Swabi and Cadet College Hassanabdal.

Govt asked to establish college in Lakki city

LAKKI MARWAT: Office-bearers of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) asked the government to set up a degree college for boys in Lakki city to enable local students to get higher education.Talking to this correspondent on Thursday, PPP former tehsil president Din Muhammad and another leader Ihsanullah Khan said that the only postgraduate college in Lakki city could not cope with the educational needs of area youths. “After matriculation many students are denied admissions at the postgraduate college,” Din Muhammad said. They revealed that the students from urban and rural localities applied for admission in the lone postgraduate college of Lakki city.
