239 children were abused in Kasur, court informed

The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Thursday presented its report on Kasur sex scandal before the Lahore High Court.
JIT head Malik Khudabaksh Abubakar presented the report before the court of Chief Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik. The JIT in its report said 239 children were sexually abused and 31 cases were registered. It said 19 accused were held responsible and challan of 19 accused was submitted before an anti-terrorism court. It said a report for exoneration of six accused was also submitted before the court. It said the challan of six accused were also sent to the conventional courts as their role did not fall under Anti-terrorism Act.
The court put off hearing till November 29, giving time to the lawyer of petitioners for arguments on the report.
The court was holding proceedings on a petition of Sana Murad and others. Her counsel Aftab Bajwa in his petition had submitted that the act had spread terror in society and the police were not including ATA in the FIRs. He had requested the court to refer the matter of trial of the accused before military courts. He had requested for formation of JIT to investigate the matter.
NAB: The Lahore High Court on Thursday linked any action by the National Accountability Bureau against former chairman Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Asif Hashmi with the permission of the court.
A division bench headed by Justice Mahmood Maqbool Bajwa also sought assistance from attorney general on legitimacy of the NAB Ordinance challenged by Mr Hashmi.
The ex-chairman of the board stated that the FIA had held a detailed inquiry against him on charges of sale of the board’s land to DHA. Petitioner’s counsel told the bench that trial of the case before an FIA court was at final stage and many co-suspects were already acquitted of the charges.
However, the counsel said, NAB also initiated an independent inquiry into the matter.
ECP: The Lahore High Court Justice Ijazul Ahsan on Thursday sought reply from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to explain that why it did not decide the representation of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen challenging schedule of Local Governments election in Punjab. The court has directed a deputy attorney general to pursue the matter and assist the court on the next hearing going to be held on October 21.
