Ginning factories receive less cotton bales

MULTAN: Ginning factories have received less cotton in Sindh and Punjab this year facing shortfall of one million bales upto October 1st compared to the corresponding period of the last year, indicating a slowdown in the arrival of cotton in the market.
According to the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association’s latest report, ginning factories have indicated the arrival of 3,073,325 bales at factories until October 1. The arrival of the bales was recorded at 413,596 bales on October 1, 2014, leaving a shortfall of 1,061,771 bales in the current cotton arrival.
Ginner Shahzad Ahmed said the government has indicated 11 per cent less crop this season. He said the PCGA was analysing factors behind the less arrival of cotton bales. Shahzad was optimistic about increase in cotton bales arrival in coming days. The PCGA report said the shortfall percentage showed 25.68 per cent reduced crop arrival while Punjab ginning factories showed 32.71 per cent reduced crop than last year. In Punjab ginning factories got 1,331,849 bales of cotton until October 1.
Sindh received 1,741,486 bales of cotton and faces shortfall of 414,319 cotton bales. At least 2,674,977 bales of lint cotton have been ginned from the arrived bales of Phutti. The numbers of 753 ginning factories remained operational across the country. The exporters have made deals of 230,190 cotton bales and textile sector could buy 2,212,900 bales. The Trading Corporation of Pakistan did not purchase a single bale during the cotton season 2015-2016. In Punjab there are 507 ginning factories operational here and produced 1,222,447 bales of cotton.
The district wise cotton arrival statistics are below: Multan received 13,155 bales, Lodhran 20,488 bales, Khanewal 241,663 bales, Muzaffargarh 49,950 bales, Vehari 180,869 bales, Sahiwal 152,578 bales, Bahawalpur 78,442 bales, Bahawalnagar 12,493 bales. In Sindh districts, the ginning factories of Sangarh 917,129 bales and Hyderabad 148,118 bales.
