BAHAWALPUR: Three people committed suicide in separate incidents on Saturday.
In the first incident, 18-year-old Samreen Tariq, a resident of Anarkali Bazaar, Bahawalnagar, ended her life by taking poisonous pills. She was rushed to the DHQ Hospital, Bahawalnagar, in critical condition but she died. The motive behind the incident is said to be that her parents had refused to contract her marriage with her lover Ahsan, a resident of Haroonabad. Later, when the news of the death of Samreen reached to Ahsan, he rushed to the hospital and also committed suicide by taking poisonous pills in the presence of doctors. In another incident, Muhammad Israr, a resident of Chak 204 Murad, Chishtian, committed suicide by taking wheat preservation pills. The motive behind the incident is said to be a domestic dispute.
FILING OF NOMINATION PAPERS BEGINS: The filing of nomination papers for the third phase of Local Government elections started in Bahawalpur district on Saturday.
Hundreds of candidates got nomination papers from their UCs and wards and dozens of candidates filed their nomination papers. The Pakistan Election Commission has appointed 23 returning officers for holding elections in 109 union councils, one municipal corporation, five municipal committees and 1,009 wards in Bahawalpur district.
