LAHORE: Prices of perishable items continue to rise. A monitoring cell has been established by the Punjab government to monitor the prices but its benefits could not be witnessed as the public is left at mercy of profiteers, backed by elected representatives.

The price mechanism is too much distorted that the official rate list is mere a list which is never implanted anywhere in the city. The market committee issues the rate list which is duly signed by the deputy commissioner office and it seems to be the only responsibility of the two departments for price control.
