Covid-19 SOPs violation: 145 vehicles impounded, 30,609 tickets issued

PESHAWAR: The Highways Traffic Police have impounded 145 vehicles and issued tickets to 30,609 for violation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for public transport to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Traffic, Mohammad Karim Khan said the teams of highways traffic police were deployed on all the major highways to ensure the SOPs. The official said action was being taken against drivers of vehicles that did not follow the SOPs.

“The traffic teams also educate the drivers about how to stay safe and save others by implementing the SOPs. Action has been taken against a number of drivers for violation by impounding 145 vehicles and issuing tickets to 30,609,” said Karim Khan. The city traffic police are also running a campaign in Peshawar to implement the SOPs.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Waseem Khalil said the traffic sergeants educated people about social distancing rules to prevent the spread of the virus. He added people were being asked to stay home and avoid going out unnecessarily besides wearing masks if they had to go outside.
