Slow pace of rehabilitation work irks Chitral residents

CHITRAL: The residents on Wednesday asked the federal and provincial governments to speed up the rehabilitation work in the flood-devastated district to settle the calamity-hit people before the start of the winter.
Speaking at a press conference, former member National Assembly Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, Maulana Rahmatullah, Hakeem Mujeebullah and Abdul Haq expressed concern over what they called the lack of interest by the federal and provincial governments in the rehabilitation and slow pace of relief work in the remote mountainous district.
They said though the winter and snow season was about to start, more than 500 families were still living in tents.
“The government has failed to provide relief to the flood affectees and complete the rehabilitation work ahead of the winter,” Maulana Chitrali said.
They also expressed dissatisfaction at the ongoing work on the Booni road, Garam Chashma and Bamburet roads and asked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif to take note of the slow development work by the Frontier Works Organisation (WFO).
They said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced relief for the flood-hit areas but the government didn’t honour the commitments it had made with the people.
They said that not even one percent people were benefited from the waving off the loans taken from Agricultural bank. Maulana Chitrali asked the government to announce Rs10 billion special package for the flood-hit people and revival of the damaged infrastructure there.
