US college, Skardu varsity to launch cultural project
ISLAMABAD: Boston Architectural College (BAC) and the University of Baltistan, Skardu, (UoBS) have agreed to jointly launch a US funded academic partnership project for 'Cultural Heritage Management' in Gilgit-Baltistan, says a press release on Tuesday.
BAC will help UoBS establish its ‘Cultural Heritage Center’ at Skardu. Both the academic institutions have agreed to collaborate in faculty & student exchanges for capacity building, curriculum development, field school development, preservation and documentation of cultural heritage of GB.
In past, BAC has been working with National College of Arts (NCA) for a similar cultural heritage preservation project in the old walled city of Lahore.
The understanding about academic partnership was reached during a 60-minutes long teleconference online meeting between senior administration and officials of BAC, UoBS, US Department of State and US Embassy, Islamabad, on April 20, 2020.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Baltistan; Don Hunsicker, Dean, Faculty, School of Design Studies, BAC; Ms. Eleni Glekas, Director of Historic Preservation, BAC; Dr. Laura Tedesco, Manager Cultural Heritage Programmes and others attended the teleconference.
