PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has approved an application filed for early hearing of bail petitions of former minister Ziaullah Afridi and DG mines and minerals Dr Liaqat Ali and fixed the hearing in their cases for today (Tuesday). Advocates Aminur Rehman, Latif Afridi and Barrister Mudassir Amir told a single-member bench of PHC Chief Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel that the provincial chief secretary issued a notification on September 14, 2015 and thus the provincial Ehtesab Commission came into being on the same day. They requested the court to approve their plea for early hearing of the bail petitions of Ziaullah Afridi and Dr Liaqat Ali. Another PHC division bench issued a show-cause notice to DSP (Admin) Central Police Office Fazal Ahmed Jan and SHO of the Shah Qabool Police Station Asif Ali over a case pertaining to misuse of judicial powers. The bench comprising Justice Irshad Qaiser and Justice Roohul Amin summoned the police officials for reportedly sealing a godown owned by one Noor Ahmad. Arbab Sheraz Khan, the petitioner’s counsel, told the court that the DSP reportedly pressured the SHO of Shah Qabool Police Station into sealing the godown of Noor Ahmad.
