Quarantine centre in Hyderabad to be operational soon

KARACHI: Another big quarantine centre comprising 1500 flats and a huge open area is about to be operational in Hyderabad to keep five to six thousand patients in case of emergency.

Originally, the property of Sindh Labour Department ‘Labour Colony’ 12 kilometers away from centre of Hyderabad city has been lying vacant for long, as the flats have to allot to employees of department. These flats have been converted into quarantine centre.

Having two blocks out of four, each having 32 flats two rooms and a lounge, facility has been prepared for quarantine centre in case of emergency.

MPA and PPP leader Sharjil Memon and head of Liaison Committee for relief work related COVID-19 emergency of Hyderabad district told The News that 1,500 flats are available to keep 5,000-6,000 patients, if the need arises.

A few days back, Sindh government decided to utilise the Labour Department’s said site comprising four blocks of around 1,500 flats and a vast open space around them for setting up a quarantine centre and promise has been fulfilled in record time, provided all other civic facilities and finally the electricity, added Mr Mrmon.

Sindh government for this purpose got a separate electricity supply feeder from Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) for it at a cost of Rs83 million and the amount has been paid and electricity has been provided to 800 apartments which are more than fifty percent and in coming two three days remaining work will also be done, concluded Mr Memon.

On the other hand, Sindh Health Department and district management Hyderabad took over the control of two private hospitals to keep the suspected patients of coronavirus by converting the major portion of both hospitals into quarantine centre.

Dr Parvez Sheikh, Additional District Health Officer confirmed that major portions of two private hospitals Rajpootana Hospital and Memon Hospital have been taken in the control to keep the suspected patients of coronavirus.

Sources of Health Department informed that 64 suspected patients belong to Tablieghi Jamaat would be kept at Rajpootana Hospital. Both the hospitals have been taken over under Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act, 2014.
