HAFIZABAD: Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif will arrive here on Sep 21.
The PM will visit Kolo Tarar, native village of State Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar, where he will distribute subsidy cheques among the growers under the recently announced Kisan Package. Later, the PM will also address a public meeting.
1,331 CANDIDATES FILE PAPERS: As many as 1,331 candidates have filed their nomination papers for 370 general councillors’ seats for the upcoming Local Government elections.
Moreover, 192 candidates have submitted their nomination papers for the slots of chairman and vice-chairman for 46 union councils situated in rural areas of the district. Scrutiny of the papers will start from Sep 26 while elections will be held on Nov 12. According to the new Local Government Ordinance, elected councillors will elect the minority, women, Kisan, labour and youth councillors. However, chairman and vice-chairman in the rural areas will be elected by the electorates while in Municipal committees the councillors will elect the chairman and vice-chairman.
