STBB chairman appointed in compliance with SHC order
The Sindh government has appointed Ahmed Bux Narejo as chairman of the Sindh Textbook Board (STBB) in compliance with a court order, provincial law officer told the Sindh High Court.
The SHC had on March 3 directed the additional secretary services and the secretary of school education to appoint chairman of the board within 15 days, warning of stern action against them in case of non-compliance. Mohammad Yaqoob Chandio had filed a contempt of court application against the chief secretary, the secretary of school education over non-compliance with the court order about the appointment of chairman and members of the STBB.
The applicant’s counsel, Syed Haider Imam Rizvi, submitted that the SHC on March 20, 2018, had directed the chief secretary and the secretary of school education to appoint chairman and members of the STBB within 30 days, but despite the lapse of more than one year the alleged contemnors had miserably failed to comply with the order.
A division bench headed by Justice Nadeem Akhtar had taken exception to the non-compliance and observed that the alleged contemnors had not complied with the court directives in letter and spirit.
The additional advocate general of Sindh submitted a notification with regard to the appointment of Ahmed Bux Narejo, a grade 20 officer, as chairman of the Sindh Text Book Board till further orders. The court, in view of compliance with its order, observed that listed contempt applications had become infructuous and dismissed the same.
