MURREE: In response to directives by the Punjab government, the health, food and sanitation departments launched a drive against hotels, meat shops, bakers and other outlets serving unhygienic and substandard food items.
Town Municipal Officer (TMO) Inamur Raheem, along with Assistant Commissioner Tahir Farooq, Deputy District Health Officer Dr Azhar Abbasi, Sanitary and Food Inspector Shahid and others raided a number of hotels, food outlets, meet shops and other outlets from Mall Road to Card Road, Motor Agency and other areas. The team inspected kitchens of the hotels and those found unhygienic and unclean were fined thousands of rupees. A pizza outlet of a famous company on Kuldanna Road has been sealed.
Case has been registered against a hotel on the Mall for unhygienic kitchen and substandard food. Earlier, Punjab Food Minister Bilal Yaseen chaired a meeting of officials of all concerned departments and decided to inspect the kitchen of hotels, food outlets, bakers on daily basis. It is pertinent to mention here that more than a thousand hotels and food outlets are located in the tourists resort in a two square kilometre area.
