OKARA: Two criminals were killed during an encounter with police near Dharangga village on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference here, DPO Faisal Rana told that Yaseen, s/o Ahmad, was detained in the Bahawalnagar Jail in a case of murder and dacoity registered by Haveli police. The DPO said that Haveli police were taking Yaseen from Bahawalnagar Jail to Dharangga village to recover the murder weapon when four accused opened fire at the police party to get release Yaseen. As a result, SI Afzal Jatoi and two constables, Qamar Sajid and Javed, were injured, the DPO added. The accused persons also got released Yaseen, he maintained. In the meantime, the DPO continued, a contingent of police chased the fleeing criminals and stopped them near Dharangga village. On seeing the police, the accused again opened fire at the police, he added. The DPO claimed that Yaseen and one of his unknown accomplices were seriously injured due to firing of their won accomplices, who later died on the way to a hospital. However, their three accomplices fled, the DPO informed. The police had registered a case and started investigation, the DPO added.
