Torture of student by police at MPA’s behest
UAFASA demands CJP, CM, IGP provide justice

FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad Academic Staff Association (UAFASA), in its meeting here on Monday, condemned the alleged illegal detention and torture of student Sheraz Nawaz, son of university Graduate Studies Director Dr Haq Nawaz, by Mansoorabad police at the behest of an MPA.
The meeting regretted that police kept Sheraz in illegal detention and after a couple of days, police registered a fake case against him. It said that it was the matter of concern that the culprits were moving freely despite the fact that the medical report had proved police torture.
They said that such incidences spoke the volume of lawlessness in the country which was the challenge for the government. They said that it had become difficult for a common man to get justice. They demanded the chief minister, the IGP and the CJP take notice and provide justice.
The meeting said that Sheraz’ car was hit by a vehicle of a girl on which the MPA instructed the SHO to detain him in the police station where he was allegedly tortured. Sheraz was preparing to get admission to PhD. The UAFASA office-bearers warned of protest and taking to the streets if the justice was not provided to the family. They said that they would announce the future strategy over the issue if their demand was not met. They demanded the government take notice of the brutal act and order an inquiry.
LOADSHEDDING: People have been facing several problems due to unscheduled electricity loadshedding in the city and adjoining areas.
Talking to newsmen here on Monday, the people said that the loadshedding had made their lives miserable. They said that water supply also remained suspended during the power loadshedding. They have demanded the government take steps to end the loadshedding.
