Educational institutions of public and private sectors across Sindh observed Kashmir Solidarity Day on Wednesday, criticising the international community, especially the United Nations, for not taking any action to end atrocities in Indian-occupied Kashmir.

Students, teachers and employees participated in rallies in various cities of the province. They condemned Indian oppression and brutalities against Kashmiri people. They were chanting slogans against India and demanded of the United Nation to end violence in the Indian-held valley and to get the curfew lifted there as soon as possible.

The entire nation was standing with the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir in their just cause of freedom, and the struggle of the people of held Kashmir would yield a positive result, said Vice Chancellor Karachi University Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi while addressing a Kashmir Solidarity Walk organised by the varsity’s administration, faculty members, students and non-teaching staff.

The vice chancellor said that the Kashmiri people had been suffering blatant atrocities in Indian-occupied Kashmir for the last seven decades and particularly for the last six months. The world should condemn the shameful policies of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and should raise voice for the innocent people of occupied Kashmir.

During his speech, he paid rich tributes to the Kashmiris and said that the teaching community would support and highlight the history of Kashmir and the struggle of Kashmiris for freedom.

On the occasion, President Karachi University Teachers Society Professor Dr Anila Amber Malik said that world leaders should come forward and play their role so that the people of Kashmir could get freedom.

Likewise, a gigantic rally led by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat marked Kashmir Solidarity Day on the Sindh University campus at Jamshoro. Students, deans, academic and administrative heads, and employees were the participants. They were holding placards and banners bearing statements in favour of the Kashmir cause.

Addressing the rally, Prof Burfat said that India had been shamelessly flouting the UN Security Council resolutions calling for giving the Kashmiri peoples their right to self-determination for a long time.

“Today, we witness prodigious public outpour in all five provinces of Pakistan. People have taken to the streets, protesting against Indian barbarity, heinousness and nefariousness against people of held Kashmir,” he said.

Dr Burfat also questioned the role of the UN, observing that instead of ensuring implementation of its own resolutions it was acting merely as a silent spectator.

Similarly, students, faculty members and nonteaching employees of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology organised a rally to show solidarity with the people of Kashmir.

While addressing the rally, Fuuast acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Arif Zubair said that international human rights organisations were not fulfilling responsibilities while Indian forces were openly killing innocent people in the held valley.

He said that teachers and students of every educational institute support the struggle and resistance of the Kashmiri people against India. “Since the British, Kashmiris have been suffering atrocities. The international community must take serious notice of the violence that Indian forces committing there.”

Meanwhile, addressing a seminar on Kashmir Solidarity Day at Iqra University, renowned diplomat Shahid Amin said that India was badly entangled in Kashmir especially after ending Article 370 of its constitution. However, when Indian lifts the curfew in Kashmiri, people will surely come out on roads and it will be almost impossible for Indian forces to control millions of protesting people.

Kashmir’s freedom movement must be successful; there would be an element of violence in the liberation movement, but history is witness to the fact that the Kashmir people prefer freedom to living a life of oppression.

Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, organised a discussion panel. Talking to the participants, Dr Yousuf Khushk shed light on the genesis of the Kashmir issue, saying that the Kashmiris had a legitimate and legal right to demand their rights to self-determination.

He appreciated the role of Prime Minister Imran Khan for highlighting the Kashmir issue at the United Nations General Assembly boldly and forcefully. He also condemned the Indian brutalities and Modi’s policy to promote Hindu chauvinism not only in held-Kashmir but all over India.
