HAFIZABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan has said that the government has completely failed in providing relief to farmers and other sections of the society.
He was addressing a convention of farmers at the Municipal Stadium here on Saturday. The farmers of Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot and Gujrat participated in the convention. PTI chief Imran Khan said that the country earns 25pc income due to farmers but currently the farmers were not getting the price of their crop due to wrong policies of the government. He said that electricity and fertilisers were being provided to farmers on cheap rates in India but our farmers were deprived of such facilities. He asked the farmers to raise voice against their exploitation and assured them that he would stand with them. Imran Khan told that the prices of oil had been decreased in the international market but no benefit was given to our country’s farmers. He said that paddy crop was Rs 2,000 per maund a few years ago but now its price was only Rs 600 per maund due to which a large number of farmers gave up the profession of cultivation. He said that our country could get prosperity with the help of farmers but we had to provide more facilities to them. Imran Khan alleged that the PML-N came into power due to rigging, adding that the results of three constituencies had proved the PTI stance. He said that Rs 1.5 billion had been spent only on two Metro Bus projects but the rulers were not spending money on the prosperity of the farmers and cultivators. If Metro Bus projects money could spend on farmers, our country’s fate had been changed, he added. Imran Khan said that he would not run from the by-elections but compete with the rivals. The PTI would compete with the MQM in Karachi and with the PPP in interior Sindh, he added. He asked the farmers and common man to reach Islamabad on Oct 4 to bring revolution in the country. He alleged that those who were involved in rigging during 2013 elections were sitting in the Election Commission now. Former Punjab governor Ch Sarwar, ex-MNA Ch Mehdi Hassan Bhatti, Ibrar-ul-Haq, Ijaz Ch and others also addressed the convention.
