With alarming increase of incidents of carjacking, the Rawalpindi Police have an excuse to avert forensic investigations while investigating different sorts of crimes and suspects, as it allegedly claim that Nadra doesn’t assist police in verification of finger prints.
A senior doctor of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Dr. Waseem Khawaja told ‘The News’ that his new Toyota Corolla car was parked outside his home, located in Satellite Town, D-Block, Rawalpindi, when in wee-hours of Friday morning, he listen horn of his car and rushed to the window to see outside from his room. “I was astonished and horrified when I saw a young man sitting on the driving seat of my car; I hysterically called for help, on which man sitting at driving seat rushed out of my car and fled away with his other accomplice on Honda-70 motorcycle by targeting pistol at me,” Dr. Khawaja maintained.
In the meanwhile, ‘Rescue-15’ Police were called in, which reached at the scene within 10 minutes, Dr. Khawaja said. On checking it was revealed that chain-lock of the car that was locked with the wheels was cut and in attempt to ignite engine of the car horn of the steering was pushed that made us alarmed to rescue the car, he added.
The astonishing and shocking attempt on part of police was observed when instead of taking finger prints of the car-lifters, from doors, mirrors and steering of the car, police officials brushed aside all such evidences, claiming that Nadra doesn’t assist police in verification of finger prints; therefore it is futile exercise to take and record finger prints of the suspects and car-lifters in such or other crimes, Waseem Khawaja said.
In the morning, when New Town Police Station was approached over car-lifting incident, it was learnt that majority of the staff of Police Station is deployed on special duty of Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium as matches of domestic T-20 Cricket Tournament are being held at the stadium and subsequently, police staff of the police station and other police stations of the city is facing grave shortage of staff, he said.
