HYDERABAD: Seven people of a family were shot dead in a late night assault by armed men in a village in Matiari district on Monday.
SSP Matiari Asif Bughio stated that armed men broke into the residence of Rind family in village Salaro Rind, a riverbed village near Hala, and sprayed bullets over the residents. "The two families were locked in a marital dispute," the SSP said.
According to him, six persons including three women, were killed on the spot while the seventh victim succumbed to injuries in hospital. After the incident, the village residents blocked the National Highway in protest along with the dead bodies for several hours. Thousands of vehicles lined up on either sides of the highway. However, the SSP succeeded in persuading the protesters to end the protest assuring them that the culprits would be arrested. The SSP said that the assailants belonged to Brohi community. Bughio claimed that eight suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident. The DIG Hyderabad, Naeem Ahmed Shaikh, has directed the SSP to submit the inquiry report within a day.
The dead bodies were taken to the Taluk a hospital where the postmortem would be carried out. FIR of the incident has not been lodged so far. The slain persons included three brothers, their mother and a sister. The police have identified the slain persons as Majnu, Khan Muhammad, Khadim, Jadoo, Samreen, Shakeela and Gulabi.
