Biscuit factory sealed on Sheikhupura Road
LAHORE :The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) raided a production unit of Malik Foods on Sheikhupura Road near Dosako Chowk and seized more than 4,000kg unwholesome food.
The authority sealed the factory for manufacturing substandard and unhygienic biscuits and snacks besides poor cleanliness arrangements there.
This was stated by PFA Director General Irfan Memon. He said that biscuits were being produced with expired food ingredients while the team witnessed the use of rusty vessels, stagnant water in the production area, poor storage system, an abundance of insects and non-compliance of instructions of the authority.
The factory could not produce a food licence and the record. PFA watchdog team seized 3,000kg ready food, 1,000kg raw material, banaspati ghee, artificial sweeteners, chemicals and loose non-food-grade colours.
Irfan Memon said that substandard biscuits and snacks were supplied to the local shops in the adjacent areas of Lahore but PFA unearthed the factory after hectic efforts by its vigilance cell. “Punjab Food Authority is vigilantly monitoring the activities of food business operators to ensure provision of pure food in Punjab. PFA will root out the businesses of adulterators, he added.
