No check on the use of LED, HID lights in Rawalpindi city
Rawalpindi : If one wanted to use High-Intensity Discharge (HID), LED lights in his cars then Rawalpindi is safest city for him, as City Traffic Police Rawalpindi has given freehand to such violators who are using such lights in their vehicles.
One can find number of cars with LED, HID lights moving around the city at night and number of shops openly selling these lights in Rawalpindi city.
These headlamps have been a nuisance for all the road users in the city for a long time. Motorists have urged the Rawalpindi Traffic Police to take action against the users of HID lights and impose heavy fine on such violators.
HID lamps emit light that is almost two to three times brighter than the conventional headlights with higher intensity as its name suggest. These headlamps can easily turn into a painful experience for the drivers coming from the opposite direction and also create a blindness hazard.
Although the HID’s make the view much clear for the drivers as they can see further down the road but the extreme intensive nature of emitting light is a threat to others. Substandard HID lights also available in markets often resulted into short circuit and causes fire in the vehicle. City Traffic Police Rawalpindi is maintaining its website to educate people but they haven’t mentioned that use if LED, HID lights can cause accidents.
When ‘The News’ contacted Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Muhammad Bin Ashraf he said Rawalpindi Traffic Police is taking action against the use of LED, HID lights. Sharing data against the use the LED, HID lights CTO told that in 2019 Rawalpindi Traffic police has fined 1,280 and 1,452 in first and second sessions, whereas 1,578 lights were removed from vehicles during a year.
The data which Rawalpindi Traffic Police has shared is showing that the concerned authority is least interested to take action against the use of LED, HID lights.
On the other hand Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has constituted special squads to ensure safe road environment and avoid accidents.
