DIG Sukkur accused of serious wrongdoing
SUKKUR: An internal police inquiry, which has found its way into the hands of Advocate General Sindh, has alleged the involvement of DIG Sukkur Iqbal Dara in aiding the supply of smuggled Iranian diesel and petrol and its sale.
Additional IGP Sindh, Aftab Ahmed had constituted an inquiry team some time ago, headed by DIG Imran Yaqoob Minhas, to look into the complaints against DIG Dara’s role of involvement in the unchecked movement of the smuggled fuel. Interestingly, Inspector Ghulam Ali Jumani posted who was part of the inquiry team, submitted a copy of the report to the Advocate General Sindh.
Sources, citing the inquiry report, allege that DIG Sukkur Iqbal Dara is involved in allowing the supply of smuggled fuel with the help and assistance of a fuel dealer Najibullah Indhar, SHO Sangi and a retired official of the Frontier Corps Mohammad Afzal. According tothe report, as many as 100 oil tankers of smuggled fuel from Jhat Patt, in Jaffarabad Balochistan, enter Sindh and pass practically unchecked from police check-posts in Jacobabad, Sukkur, Kashmore and Shikarpur to supply at the designated petrol pumps. According to police investigations, retired FC officer Mohammad Afzal allegedly is a critical part of the whole affair.
The police report also accuses DIG Iqbal Dara of making money from extortion and illegal activities in the region. Angry over the report, DIG Dara has asked Inspector Ghulam Ali Juman to vacate the official accommodation he was occupying at the PTC Larkana.
Meanwhile, IGP Sindh Dr Kaleem Imam has demanded a clarification from Inspector Jumani as to why he submitted the report to an unsanctioned officer i.e. the Advocate General.
