Haris new U21 snooker champion
ISLAMABAD: Haris Tahir emerged Jubilee Insurance National Under-21 Snooker champion with a crushing win over Umer Farooq in the final here at the Pakistan Sports Complex Thursday.
Haris won 6-1 (82-5, 77-39(63), 19-73, 50-35, 91-21, 79-30(68), 71-8(52)). Three over fifty breaks helped Haris pinned down his opponent easily. His que-control was exceptional and so was his potting ability.
Pakistan Billiard and Snooker Association (PBSA) President Munawwar H. Shaikh was the guest of honour on the occasion. He along with Alamgir A. Shaikh (former president PBSA), Ijaz Mehmood (Joint EVP Jubilee General Insurance) and Azam Dar (Deputy Director General Pakistan Sports Board) distributed prizes among the winners.
Besides trophies for Under-16, Under-18 and Under-21 winners and runners-up, highest break awards were also given to players.
In Under-16, Hamza Ilyas (67), in Under-18 Umar Khan (106) and in Under-21 Farhan Anwar (85) were awarded Rs5000 each for highest break. The winner each of the three categories got richer by Rs50,000 while runner-up in all the three categories pocketed Rs25,000 cash prize.
