Two highwaymen killed, two cops injured in encounter

OKARA: Two highwaymen were killed and as many policemen injured in an encounter near Ghorey Shah Graveyard on Stadium Road on Monday night.
Police received information that five highwaymen were fleeing after snatching a motorcycle from Sufian Alam at Benazir Avenue. Following the information, police rushed to the spot and started chasing the dacoits.
Seeing the police, the highwaymen opened fire on them. Police also retaliated. As a result, two highwaymen were killed while three others escaped. ASI Shafqat and Constable Jabbar were also injured in the encounter. Police have registered a case.
Meanwhile, talking to newsmen, the DPO claimed that the two highwaymen were killed by the firing of their own accomplices. He said that the killed highwaymen were later identified as Sadi and Iqbal, residents of Chak 48/GD. Sadi was wanted by Okara, Sahiwal and Faisalabad police in 26 cases and Iqbal in seven cases.
