BAHAWALPUR: Dozens of the jobless blind people staged a demonstration outside the Bahawalnagar DCO Office on Monday.
They blocked traffic for several hours to press their demands. They were chanting slogans in favour their demands. They were also carrying placards and banners. The bank staffers were coming to the branch from a National Bank of Pakistan branch with cash. When they reached the outside bank, the dacoits intercepted them and snatched the amount from them. The dacoits also injured bank guard Muhammad Amin when he offered resistance to them. The injured guard was shifted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital where he is stated to be in stable condition.
Meanwhile, talking to The News, Yazman DSP Raja Ghulam Abbas said that he had visited all bank branches some days ago and asked them for enhancing security, particularly when cash was being transferred. He also asked them to install more CCTV cameras in and outside their branches but no one bothered. He said that no doubt it was the police responsibility to maintain the law and order and protect the lives and properties of the people but it was also the responsibility of bank managers to beef up security in their banks.
