SC suspends LHC verdict for lawyer’s release
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday suspended a decision of the Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding release of Colonel (retd) Inamur Rahim Advocate on an appeal of the federal government, and adjourned the proceedings for a week.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Mushir Alam conducted hearing on the federation’s appeal against the LHC’s judgment. Attorney General Anwar Mansoor submitted an initial report in a sealed envelope regarding the arrest of the lawyer by the law enforcement agencies. He adopted the stance before the top court that the law enforcement agencies had recovered sensitive material and information from Advocate Rahim.
Justice Alam asked the attorney general as to whether the detainee had been informed about the charges against him, to which Mansoor replied in affirmative, saying a laptop had been recovered from the accused.
To another court query, the attorney general said timeframe for completion of investigation from the detainee could not be ascertained at this stage. “Inamur Rahim is not alone, there are also other people involved in suspicious activities,” he said, adding some people had been arrested while others would be held soon on the same charges.
After hearing arguments, the apex court suspended the LHC decision against the arrest of Advocate Rahim.
