Karachi United, Army in women football final
KARACHI: Karachi United and Army qualified for the final after securing wins over their rivals in the semi-finals of the 12th National Women Football Championship here at the KU Stadium on Friday.
Karachi United defeated Punjab 2-0, while Army overpowered WAPDA 2-1 in penalty shootout. The first semi-final remained interesting with both Karachi United and Punjab offering tough resistance to each other. However, Karachi United, being hosts, got benefit of the small ground, taking lead through Aliha Aladin in the 64th minute. In the 74th minute, Nina doubled their lead for Karachi United through solo effort to seal a comfortable win for the hosts.
Meanwhile, the second semi-final between Army and WAPDA ended 2-1 in favour of the former on penalty shootout after the thriller was evenly poised without a goal in the regulation and extra time.
The final between Karachi United and Army will be held on Sunday (tomorrow) at 3pm at the same venue. Earlier at 12pm, the third place play-off will be held between WAPDA and Punjab.
