FAISALABAD: A lawyer and his colleagues on Sunday tortured of a traffic warden when he stopped them from violating the traffic rules at Kutchery Bazaar.
Traffic warden Shahbaz Ahmad was performing duty when he stopped lawyer Izharul Haq and his colleagues from violating the traffic rules. After exchange of hot words, the accused lawyer and his companions took the traffic warden to the District Bar office and allegedly tortured of him besides tore off his official uniform. Police have registered a case against the lawyer and his colleagues.
GIRL COMMITS, 3 ATTEMPT SUICIDE: A girl committed suicide while three others attempted the same in different incidents here on Sunday.
Maham Saleem, a resident of Mehmoodabad, ended her life by taking poisonous pills. The motive behind the incident is said to be a domestic dispute. In another incident, Riaz Mukhtar of Chak 68/JB attempted suicide by drinking bleaching powder. The motive behind the incident is said to be unemployment. In yet another incident, Veena Ijaz, a married woman, also attempted suicide by taking poisonous pills after exchange of hot words with her husband Ijaz Ahmad over a domestic issue. In another incident, Nadeem Siddique of Peoples Colony also attempted suicide by taking poison due to some unknown reason. He was rushed to a hospital where his condition was critical.
4,800 MOTORCYCLISTS FINED: The City Traffic Police imposed Rs 1 million fine on 4,800 motorcyclists for not wearing helmets on the first day of a campaign here.
On the other hand, it is pertinent to mention here that the traffic wardens who are deputed by the CTO to check and fine the motorcyclists for not wearing helmets are also driving their motorcycles without wearing any helmet and some of them are found violating the traffic rules. The traffic wardens are not performing their duty at various chowks including Chenab Chowk and Abdullahpur Chowk, which is causing traffic mess in the city.
