Tobacco Control Cell established in Gujranwala
GUJRANWALA: The district administration has established the Tobacco Control Cell to implement Non-Smokers Health Ordinance 2002 here.
The step would help sustain tobacco control at the national level with local help and less reliance on donors. It was told that the cell was set up on the request of the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination (NHSCRC).
The DC would be the head of the TCC and Anjum Riaz Sethi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), would be the implementation head of the cell. The health authorities would provide technical assistance to local tobacco control authorities for smoke-free public places and public transports.
‘ERADICATION OF POLIO OUR NATIONAL DUTY’: Deputy Commissioner Sohail Ashraf has said that eradication of polio is our national duty and the district government will utilise its all available resources for this purpose.
He said this while addressing a meeting held to review the anti-polio steps taken by the district health authorities. Health CEO Dr Muhammad Farjad, DHO Dr Sofia, the Education CEO and other officers of government departments attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed anti-polio campaigns and vaccination systems in all healthcare centres. The DC said that all institutions should take measures to eradicate polio from the district.
He stressed upon the need for effective coordination between Health Department and other government institutions in this regard. The Health CEO while briefing the meeting said that total 1,958 teams had been constituted for anti-polio vaccination in the district. He told that anti-polio campaign would start from January 13 and would conclude on January 17.

Summer vacation extension violators get notices: The district administration Wednesday issued show-cause notices to school owners for violating the instructions of the Punjab government regarding winter vacations extension. Reportedly, the Punjab government has extended the winter vacations due to severe cold wave, but some private school owners are not following the regulations. On the directives of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Assistant Commissioners (ACs) along with educational authorities raided different areas and took action against the school owners who were not abiding by the regulations. The owners were also issued show-cause notices.
MOTORCYCLIST DIES IN ROAD ACCIDENT: A motorcyclist died in a road accident here on GT Road, Kamoke, Gujranwala. Reportedly, a motorcyclist died when a container overturned and he was trapped beneath it near a hotel.
