Siraj slams establishment for bringing, throwing elected governments
LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has criticised the past practice of installing and overthrowing elected governments in the country and also held politicians equally responsible for weakening democracy on different occasions.
“Mostly political parties become a property of a particular family with the main objective of safeguarding personal interests, and such incapable and corrupt politicians let others maneuver in politics and dance to their tune,” he told a “Meet the Press” programme at the Khuzdar (Balochistan) Press Club on Tuesday, says a message received at JI headquarters Mansoorah.
Sirajul Haq said main political parties displayed unity when it came to the matter of their own interest but they hardly showed any accord to resolve the common man’s problems. “It is neither America nor India but the corrupt and weak system is the main problem of Pakistan,” he said and expressed concern over occasions when the entire system worked to provide protection to a powerful individual and family.
Highlighting the problems of Balochistan, he lamented the past and present governments never showed any interest to address them. Despite gifted with natural resources, the majority of the people of the province are passing a miserable life, he added. The ruling elite showed no interest to address the deprivations of Balochistan, he maintained, because they all were the agent of the status quo and they had nothing to do with the problems of the poor.
He said people of Pakistan could only get rid of the corrupt ruling elite, if they forged unity and stood against them. This is the only way to put the country on the path to development, he added. Siraj said the nation needed to stand above prejudices on the basis of language, region and religion to make the country strong and developed.
He said the JI could turn Pakistan into an Islamic welfare state if voted to power. JI Balochistan ameer Abdul Haq Hashmi, JI leader Mir Younis Zahri and Khuzdar Press Club President Abdullah Shahwani attended the event.
