CHITRAL: The scenario of the election for the district nazim took a new turn on Saturday after the Jamiat Ulema-e-islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman contacted his party leaders, asking them to field a candidate for the top slot.
Though the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Maghfirat Shah was considered to be the favourite, the JUI-F chief intervention changed the whole scenario.
Sources said the JUI-F leaders asked the JI that being the single largest party it was their prerogative to field candidate for the nazim slot. The sources said the JUI-F had the support of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, All Pakistan Muslim League and Pakistan People’s Party.
There were also reports that a few members of the JUI-F were staying at the Governor Cottage and would vote for the JI candidate. However, the sources said the JUI-F chief had warned his party members of stern action if they did not toe the party line.
