Young Sikh man shot dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A young Sikh, who had returned from abroad for his wedding, was shot dead by unidentified attackers in the limits of the Chamkani Police Station.

Parvinder Singh, 25, was working in Malaysia and had returned home to get married in February, relatives said. Belonging to Chakesar in Shangla, Parvinder Singh was in Peshawar to shop for his upcoming wedding where his bullet-riddled body was found in Chamkani late Saturday night, relatives told reporters. “We are investigating the motivesbehind his killing. The family has not charged anyone in the first information report,” Mohammad Ali Gandapur, the Capital City Police Officer, told The News. The official said the police was investigating the case from all angles.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Operations, Zahoor Afridi visited the site of the incident and later talked to the family of the deceased.

“The police have launched investigation and the killers will be arrested soon,” Zahoor Afridi told reporters. The family of the deceased told the police that they received a call from an unknown person late Saturday night who informed them about the murder of Parvinder. A case was registered against unidentified attackers on the complaint of his brother. Harmeet Singh, the brother of the deceased, works for a local television channel. “The government is doing much for the soft image but this is how people from minorities are being killed in one or the other part of the country. Minorities are the beauty of society. The government gets millions of funds for minorities and claims at every forum to be providing equal rights to them. But we are facing these kinds of attacks and our people are being killed like my brother. I will not remain silent until the government and its agencies arrest the killers and dispense justice to us,” Harmeet Singh told reporters.

He asked everyone to raise the issue for justice to Parvinder Singh and arrest the killers at earliest. Many on social media have demanded justice for the family by arresting the killers at earliest. Also, the CCPO Mohammad Ali said a high level investigation team had been constituted to arrest the culprits. Meanwhile, the relatives of Parvinder Singh staged a protest by placing the body on the road near the Peshawar Press Club.

The protesters demanded an early arrest of the killers to bring them to justice. They said the government should protect the minorities. They said the victim family had no other option but to place the body near the press club to register the protest.
