NAB to file references against corrupt income tax officials

MULTAN: The National Accountability Bureau has decided filing references against the corrupt income tax officials after tracing gross irregularities in bogus refund claims.
Talking to The News here on Friday, the NAB Multan spokesman said that the accused officials were found involved in misuse of powers and issuing bogus tax refund claims. The officials include former income tax official Javed Iqbal Malik, Additional Commissioner Javed Fakhri Dahir, ITO Kanwar Abdur Rahim and ITO Muhammad Khawar, he added.
He said that the accused officials made bogus refunds worth Rs 140 million during their posting in Bahawalpur in 2006/07. He said that NAB investigation official Mehr Ali Gilani found them guilty during interrogation after which the NAB had approved filing reference against them.
He said that the NAB had completed investigation of four cases against the Kazmi Associates. He said that accused Azhar Hussain Kazmi fraudulently received money from different people for allotting them plots in Ali Garden Housing Scheme in 2007/08, but he did not allot the plots and embezzled Rs 13,776,000. He said that the NAB investigators also found discrepancies in the other housing projects of the accused, which include Khanewal Khayaban-e-Ali Housing Scheme and Multan Khayaban-e-Ali Housing Scheme.
