KARACHI: Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Siddiqui assured England’s top boxer Amir Khan that the government would fully back him in his mission to establish an academy in Karachi.
Amir met Shoaib at his office on Thursday and discussed with him various aspects of his plan for the promotion of boxing in the port city.
Shoaib pointed out to two-time world champion some areas, including Lyari, KMC Complex Kashmir Road and Hawks Bay where the proposed academy could be established.
Amir told the commissioner that he would send him a written plan about the project from England.
Amir said that he would come to Karachi again in December and would work for opening of the academy.
Shoaib said that Amir’s visit to Pakistan would definitely send a message of peace to the world.
He said that the way Amir was working for Pakistan showed his love for the country of his origin. He said that Amir had been a role model and inspiration for the boxing fans. Amir will also formally launch AK Trust here in December. He is also working on an academy in Lahore and signed an MoU with the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) a few days ago for establishing an academy in Islamabad.
He also plans to open an academy in Peshawar, but no concrete step has been taken in that direction. Amir was scheduled to fly from here for England Thursday night.
