Angry Peshawar residents come on roads to protest as gas crisis worsens
PESHAWAR: The angry residents came on roads in different parts of the city on Friday to register protest at the worsening gas crisis that has paralyzed life and created multiple problems in the provincial metropolis.
The first protest was staged on the busy Dilazak Road which houses a number of residential colonies besides several business centres. The angry residents blocked the road at the Gulabad Chowk. They blocked traffic which created problems for the commuters and travelers. The people chanted slogans against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, public representatives from the district and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) officials for their failure to ensure gas supply with required pressure to the provincial metropolis in this chilly weather. The protesters complained that there is either no gas supply at different times of the day or the pressure is too low to meet the needs in this cold weather.
They complained that women were unable to prepare the meal for either the lack or poor gas supply and they were bearing the additional burden on domestic budget as they had go for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and firewood to meet the needs.
The elders of the area intervened and persuaded the protesters to reopen the road as long queues of vehicles were seen on the road.
Another protest was staged by the Jamaat-e-Islami members and supporters outside the Peshawar Press Club.
