CHAKWAL: As many as nine candidates on Wednesday filed their nomination papers for contesting the Chakwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry annual elections.
The elections will be conducted first time after 2011 polls. The Pioneer Group is flexing muscles under the leadership of its president Qazi Muhammad Akbar while the Founder Group is heading by Sahibzada Abdul Qaddus. Those who filed the nomination papers from Qazi Group are Irfan Hussain, Ch Yaseen and Noor Sultan for Corporate Sector while Khawaja Arif Yousaf, Abdul Hafeez Anjum and Haji Abdul Razzaq filed papers for Associate members. The Founder Group candidates are Sahibzada Abdul Qaddus, Ch Ahmad Khan and Asif Mehmood. The Election Commission made for conducting the polls would be headed by Qazi Nasir Elahi while Raja Arshad Mehmood and Tahseen Affaq would be its members. The scrutiny of the nomination papers would be held on Thursday (today) while polling date would be Sep 20. However, only 13 members would cast their vote for the Corporate Sector and 99 voters would cast their vote for Associate class.
AFGHAN HELD: City police on Wednesday arrested an Afghan for not having legal documents and residing illegally.
On a tip-off, the police raided at Mohallah Line Park and arrested Ehsan Muhammad Khan for not having legal documents to reside in Pakistan. The police have registered a case.
