‘PTI to nominate district, tehsil nazims on August 29’ Ali Khan Jadoon named for Abbottabad nazim

NOWSHERA: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader and candidate for district nazim Liaqat Khan Khattak has said that his party would finalise names of the candidates for district and tehsil nazims on August 29.
Speaking at a press conference here, he said that his party’s popular support was manifested in the local government elections in which PTI secured 47 percent votes.
He added that the PTI had not initiated actions against anyone in the province. “Ehtesab Commission is an independent body,” he claimed, adding that weaknesses in the Ehtesab Commission had been removed and it had now become a powerful institution.
Comparing Ehtesab Commission with National Accountability Bureau (NAB), he said the NAB gave relief to thieves under ‘plea bargain’. He said elected representatives of his party can only recruit Class-IV employees. “All other recruitment is being done on merit,” he claimed.
Liaqat Khattak asked the opponents to produce proof of corruptions against his family and avoid political mud-slinging.
He rejected the allegation of Liaqat Shabab that chief minister had recruited 114 constables in the Police Department. He said that Pervez Khattak cancelled all recruitment and ordered inquiry into the matter after it was brought into his notice.
Sardar Abrar Rashid adds from Abbottabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated Ali Khan Jadoon and Sardar Waqar Nabi for the slots of district nazim and naib nazim, respectively, though the official announcement would be made in a day or two, a source said on Wednesday.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan personally interviewed the two candidates for the office of district and tehsil nazims, who had applied for party tickets after winning the May 30 local government elections and re-polls on July 30.
Four candidates, including Ali Khan Jadoon, Sardar Waqar Nabi, Sardar Sher Bahadur and Nazir Abbasi had applied for the award of ticket to the party’s parliamentary board headed by Imran Khan.
Ali Khan Jadoon, a councillor-elect from Kakul Union Council, is the youngest son of former federal minister Amanullah Khan Jadoon.
Though he is a novice at politics, he has a rich political family background. His elder brother Saifullah Khan Jadoon has served as Tehsil Abbottabad Nazim from 2005 to 2010.
A source in the PTI said that Sardar Waqar Nabi, a strong candidate for the slot of district nazim, failed to get the support of elected representatives of the district council and was offered to become deputy to Ali Khan Jadoon.
He flatly refused to get this less important post. Resultantly PTI leadership offered the same position to Nazir Abbasi, district councilor elected from Bakote Union Council.
He accepted the offer. However, the source claimed, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak convinced Waqar Nabi, the first-ever district councillor of PTI in the entire province, who was elected unopposed, to consider his decision.
Waqar Nabi accepted the offer after being convinced by Pervez Khattak and PTI leadership that he would be looking after the affairs of the important line departments.
He was assured that he would be awarded the PTI ticket for contesting from NA-18 in the next general election. Waqar Nabi took an early retirement from the Communication and Works department as an Executive Engineer (XEN) in 1999.
He is the eldest son of former provincial minister Sardar Ghulam Nabi, who retired as chief engineer from the Communication and Works Department.
Sardar Waqar Nabi hails comes of an educated family of Namli Maira village of Galiyat. He is the first cousin and brother-in-law of Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan.
It will be interesting to see the combination of young and old and experience versus inexperience in the shape of district Nazim and naib nazim in Abbottabad, the political observers noted.
If both stay on the same wave-length and work for the party interests it could be a good omen for PTI in Abbottabad district. If they (Ali and Waqar) fell apart due to any reason whatsoever, PML-N would bounce back with full vigour in Abbottabad, the observers predicted.
