CHITRAL: Urging the government to waive off students fees, former member national assembly and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) leader Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali Saturday asked the government to ensure provision of the pledged money to the flood affected people of the district before winter.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, the JI leader said that prime minister had announced Rs500,000 for each flood affected families. He said that the families, whose houses were destroyed, could not spend the winter in tents. He asked the government to provide them the money forthwith to enable them to arrange proper shelters before the start of winter.
Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali termed the ongoing rehabilitation activities insufficient. He urged the federal and provincial governments to launch a project on the pattern of the Chitral Development Project. “The reconstruction and rehabilitation works require Rs12 billion,” he claimed, adding that most of the villages in Morkhow had been wiped out. He said a residential project for these villagers should be started in Qaqlasht as their previous abode could not be rehabilitated.
Maulana Chitrali asked the government to waive off the fees of the students from Chitral district, pursuing education anywhere in the country. He said the pipeline supplying drinking water to Chitral town should be repaired forthwith.
