Death sentence to Pervez Musharraf: What about PCO judges, NRO beneficiaries, asks Faisal Vawda
LAHORE: Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda has raised the question if Musharraf can be awarded punishment, when the PCO judges, NRO beneficiaries and absconders like Sharifs will meet similar treatment.
In a statement Wednesday, Faisal Vawda, who belongs to Karachi and got elected in 2018 general elections defeating PML-N President Shahbaz, said Pervez Musharraf was fighting for life whereas a former premier Nawaz Sharif escaped from the country in the name of treatment.
He further said as a citizen of Pakistan, he respected the court’s ruling about Pervez Musharraf but asked “when the then PCO judges and those who sought NRO will be awarded death sentence”.
Meanwhile, Tehreek-e-Istiqlal’s central president Rehmat Khan Wardag in a statement termed the punishment awarded to former president Musharraf unlawful and unconstitutional. He said the bench that empowered Musharraf to remain president in uniform for three years and gave him powers for making constitutional amendment also included former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry.
